Cindy –
Feeling Calm and Safe is concise and easy to read which is helpful when you are feeling overwhelmed with life and need quick resources to help yourself. I found lots of valuable information and easy to implement strategies. After many years of therapy myself, there were strategies I already use that Karla has explained simply and in an easy to remember way. I also found many new ideas that I will add to my toolbox of resources. Often when feeling overwhelmed, I forget the tools I’ve learned and I don’t have the ability to read long complex instructions. I will keep this book handy for those moments.
Allan G (Registered Psychologist) –
Karla’s well researched book offers effective tools to better manage chronic stress and anxiety. These authentic tools are concise, clear and easy to apply. A much needed resource in today’s chaotic and confused world.
Jennifer Mackie –
Karla Cameron’s new book clearly explains what the title suggests: Feeling Calm and Safe – When you feel safe, the world looks different. This brilliant book encapsulates a vast array of information in concise, bite-sized treasures making it an excellent reference book. If you are pro-active to become healthy, you will gain insights on how you can be kinder to yourself and allow your energy to flow more freely. You learn how to be more empowered and in charge of your life breath by breath while accepting the present moment.
Karla speaks from lived experience. She is no longer just a victim/survivor of abuse but someone who is thriving because she has gained insights and practical techniques to no longer avoid pain and psychological distress. She knows what it feels like to be in fight/flight/freeze mode and have panic attacks. She has learnt to connect to her body and gain deeper levels of healing and understanding. Her invaluable awareness comes through with every page in this book.
The book is well structured with sections for information, online resources and references. The section on twenty-seven ideas to ground yourself gives rational help to assess many things such as your needs, breathing techniques, sleep hygiene, good eating habits, and the importance of movement and kind self-talk. All points are given with compassion reminding you to be gentle with yourself while learning to become comfortable with the uncomfortable.
Feeling Calm and Safe – When you feel safe, the world looks different is a gem in the extensive genre of self-help books. I would highly recommend it as it concisely gives light on how fears, shame, anxiety etc. can be turned into strengths as you learn to get out of your head so as to become calm, safe and grounded inside your body with growing peace in your soul.
